The Marion Department of Public Works announced Oct. 16 that the Front Street Sidewalk Reconstruction Improvements project will begin Monday, Oct. 19, 2026. The work will be done by contractor Hatch Landscape and Design Inc.

The project covers Front Street from 182 Front Street to the intersection with Vine Street. Crews will first work on the stretch from Cottage Street to 182 Front Street, then move on to the section from Cottage Street to Vine Street. Construction hours are 7 a.m. to 3 p.m., Monday through Friday, and the town expects the work to be finished by Thanksgiving, though the schedule could shift due to weather or unforeseen circumstances.

During construction, sections of sidewalk about 200 feet long will be closed to all pedestrian traffic at a time, and the adjacent vehicle travel lane will also close while work is active. Traffic will alternate through the remaining open lane under the direction of police details, and drivers are asked to follow all posted signs and police instructions.

Residents are asked not to park along the roadway during construction. Driveway access for abutting properties will be maintained throughout the project, though there may be brief delays. Parking on Front Street will be limited, and motorists are directed to use alternate parking, including the Island Wharf Road lot.

The town said motorists should expect delays in the area and consider alternate routes, and asked drivers to slow down and use caution near the work zone.

Questions about the project can be directed to the DPW at (508) 748-3540, Monday through Friday, 7 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. For emergencies outside those hours, residents can call the Marion Police Department at (508) 748-1212, which will relay concerns to the appropriate town department.
